Care For Yourself To Care For Others

April 13, 2021

The modern world today seems to bring with it more and more stress. Whether it’s constant pressure from work, ailing parents, children who need to be ferried from one activity to another or the pressure of building up that savings account, women today are being bombarded from all sides and struggling to keep up. Read below for reminders on why it’s so important to put yourself first and tips to help make it happen.

Take Care Of Yourself

To combat your stress, it is important to be kind to yourself; even if you feel like you are last on the priority list, you can only take care of others if you are taking care of yourself. Do your best to take time out of each day to focus on what recharges you, including physical activity and a balanced diet. As an added bonus, experts like Dominique Fradin-Read know that a healthy lifestyle is critical to slowing down the aging process. Take the time to exercise even if it’s for a short while and eat a healthy, balanced diet so that your body can get a reset and have the energy to face the day; even one brief walk and one meal with healthy proteins and varied fruits and vegetables is better than nothing.

Fuel Your Soul

In addition to making sure you’re physically cared for, don’t forget to also take care of your mental health. Do this by engaging in hobbies and activities that remind you about who you are and connect you to those people and causes important to you. Consider self-care ideas like volunteering at an organization whose mission you support, taking up that painting hobby that you let slip by the wayside years ago or planning a night out with the friends you keep putting off. If you’re at a loss for ideas, consider learning a new skill like cooking or knitting or plan that epic vacation that you’ve always dreamed of. Having something to look forward to at the end of every day will go far in helping you through the daily grind.

If you feel like you’re constantly taking care of others, that may be a sign that you need to pause and take care of yourself. Treat yourself as gently as you treat others and remember you can’t do it all unless you are feeling your best. Eating well, exercise and taking time to enjoy yourself are all vitally important to both feeling good and doing good.
