Some years ago, there was this time when listening to newly released songs was a hassle. You were required to install the music using some website via browser and all. But now, just install an app and enjoy multi-linguistic songs with a click.
Several music apps have been quite hype recently. Spotify is one of the popular ones. People usually say Spotify instead of streaming. It is the craze of this app. Big music labels do streaming partnerships with such apps with huge users all across the globe. Such apps are usually installed by default in the gadgets.
You all must also be engaged with the usage of this app. The green-colored bald logo of the Spotify app seems quite unusual. Have you ever thought about why the Spotify logo is like this or so? If yes, then here’s the story.
There’s a full narration of how Spotify got its name & the Spotify logo. Let me narrate to you the story of the Spotify logo.
The Spotify logo has a long story behind it. Don’t expect a romantic story here though Spotify is full of overwhelming lovey-dovey songs.
The story was revealed by the founder of Spotify, Daniel Ek. He revealed it as a reversion to somebody’s query on Quora, an infamous question-and-answer website.
Spotify: Its Name & The Spotify Logo
The story is that Spotify’s founder and co-founder, Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, respectively, were once sitting in different rooms. They were discussing and yelling new ideas for the name of their startup back and forth. They were using jargon, different terms, and related stuff. Then, by chance, the co-founder of Spotify, Lorentzon, said something which sounded like ‘Spotify’ to Spotify’s founder Ek.
They both liked the name and started searching for this. The name was not used by anybody else. After this, they registered Spotify as their domain name. They both were very quick with the name-giving thing for their business, and it was all a result of a misunderstanding.
The 2000’s trend very much inspires the Spotify logo. The logo has nothing relevant to music and is very shallow if its meaning is considered. Even the name is very much inspired from the Early ’20s by just adding a suffix (-ify) to a simple word. Of course, the name also seems bald and has no literal attainment to musical things.
Spotify’s logo results from a trend that was a cliche. They just used the visual convention of concentric lines to display emerging technologies and streaming. They used it to predict the wireless transmission of radio waves more like audio and sound waves. Even this logo design was quite in trend in the early 2000s.
Spotify is a big success nowadays. The main reason is a huge investment in its branding and advertising. If the appearance, name, and Spotify logo are considered, it is not anything new or unusual. Spotify’s name and Spotify logo seem very irrelevant and bald. Nothing sharp or related to music is used, which is the main service of the Spotify app.
Talking sense, numerous startups changed their names and logos to be a success. Some even flopped because of the illogical usage of logos and names. Whereas luck is definitely in favor of Spotify. Despite having a bad name and an illogical logo, Spotify is a huge success.
The mishearing of a word due to an American accent gave rise to a popular business name and logo. Even many other businesses stole the naming idea and concocted Shopify, Stockify, etc., offering good services globally.
In the U.S., there is data revealed by U.S. Patent and Trademark that naming businesses with “-ify” suffix was quite a trend till 2006. However, the demand slowed down afterward. The algorithm of naming changed after this because of copyright issues. One of the reasons was also the success of Spotify.
Hence, there’s no harm to say that with an illogical name and a bald logo, Spotify worked quite well in its business. Thus, Spotify got its name and logo due to the mishearing of a word, and all happened in confusion by chance.
